  • Safety Statements: Poison by intravenous route. Moderately toxic by ingestion and intraperitoneal routes. Human systemic effects by ingestion: hematuria, anuria, general anesthesia, gastrointestinal effects. Experimental teratogenic and reproductive effects. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of NOx and SOx.

Properties: White or slightly yellow powder. mp 252-256°. Sparingly sol in water at 37°: 13 mg/100 ml at pH 5.5; 200 mg/100 ml at pH 7.5. Sparingly sol in alcohol, acetone. One gram dissolves in about 620 ml of human serum at 37°. Freely sol in dil mineral acids and in solns of potassium and sodium hydroxides and in ammonia water.
