Company Info
San Esters Corporation is a leading supplier of methacrylate and specialty acrylate monomers into the North American market. These monomers are available from our parent companies; Mitsubishi Rayon, who produces methacrylate monomers and Osaka Organic Chemical Co., who produce specialty acrylates. We have over 100 monomers available for use in conventional acrylic polymerization reactions, UV or radcure curing systems, and for use in hybrid polymer systems utilizing a variety of other non-acrylic monomers as co-reactants. These monomers are divided into 3 main groups: non-functional, functional and multifunctional. The non-functional methacrylates are alkyl esters with chain length running from methyl (C1) to stearyl (C18) along with many cyclic or aromatic rings. The functional monomers have an acrylic group on one end and various functional groups on the other end of the molecule including epoxy (oxirane), allylic, hydroxy, ether, furan, amino and acid functionalities. This allows formulators to produce resins with the functionalities free for crosslinking reactions or simply to modify the solubility or compatibility with other resins, solvents or chemicals. The multi-functional monomer is somewhat of a misnomer as it refers to multi-(meth)acrylate groups (usually di or tri) that would be used for crosslinking or high molecular weight resins (normally not including other functionalities besides the methacrylate).
