Title: Old Yellow Enzyme
CAS Registry Number: 9001-68-7
CAS Name: Reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate dehydrogenase
Synonyms: dihydronicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate diaphorase; NADPH2 diaphorase; OYE
Literature References: Mol wt 102,000-106,000. Flavoprotein which catalyzes the oxidation of reduced triphosphopyridine nucleotide by oxygen or ferricytochrome c. When the oxidizing agent is molecular oxygen, OYE functions as a true hydrogen carrier, whereas when ferricytochrome c is the oxidizing agent, only electrons are passed on to the cytochrome, the protons being liberated as free hydrogen ions. Shows diaphorase activity as well as low cytochrome c reductase activity. Isoln from dried brewer's bottom yeast: Warburg, Christian,
