Properties: Prisms, mp 256-257°. Stable to heat and air. Pleasant, slightly acid taste. Dissolves slowly. Soly in 100 ml water at 20°: 5.53 g, at 30°: 6.61 g, at 56.3°: 10.14 g; in 100 g methanol at 25°: 0.02 g. Practically insol in abs ethanol, isopropanol, dioxane. Aq solns of 0.2-0.01
M have pH 5.45 which is only slightly affected by increases in ionic strength caused by the addition of simple neutral salts. LD50 in mice, rats (g/kg): 11.4, 7.9 orally (Cross).
