Somatostatin (SRIF) is an inhibitor of growth hormone release from the anterior pituitary and hence an antagonist of GRF. Somatostatin suppresses the release of a variety of other hormones involved in the regulation of important physiological functions of the gastrointestinal tract. Somatostatin also inhibits TSH production.
