Properties: Needles or leaflets, mp 145-147°. Gradually dec by water; sol in pyridine, in warm alcohol, in glacial acetic acid; practically insol in benzene, ether, chloroform.
Melting point: mp 145-147°
Use: Reagent for iron as a 10% alcoholic soln. A red color is obtained with ferric ions in slightly acid soln: Cooper, Ind. Eng. Chem. Anal. Ed. 9, 334 (1937).
