Title: Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor
CAS Registry Number: 81627-83-0
CAS Name: Colony-stimulating factor 1
Synonyms: M-CSF; CSF-1
Literature References: Species specific hematopoietic growth factor which stimulates the development of committed progenitor cells to monocytes/macrophages. Also potentiates phagocytic activity and monocyte-mediated tumor cell cytotoxicity. Heavily glycosylated homodimer; produced in response to specific activating agents by a variety of cell types including monocytes, fibroblasts and endothelial cells. In humans, several molecular species have been identified which are produced via alternative splicing mechanisms from a single-copy gene. The primary transcripts include a 90 kDa glycoprotein, which is the principle form detected in serum and urine, and a fully bioactive, membrane-associated 40-50 kDa dimer. Murine M-CSF is similar to the human long form. Isoln from human urine: E. R. Stanley
